Read. Move. Thrive.
A statewide campaign inspiring kids to read and move every day — building healthy minds and bodies through fun, daily habits.

What is Read & Move It?
The Read & Move It campaign is a collaborative initiative between Special Olympics and Temple Made Fitness (TMF).
Our goal is simple: help children build lifelong healthy habits through daily reading and physical movement.
Each day, kids complete 15 minutes of reading and 15 minutes of movement — tracking their progress with fun animal-themed stickers or a digital chart.
For every row completed, they earn rewards from local community partners like smoothie shops, bookstores, and ice cream parlors.

Once a class completes the 30-day challenge, Temple Made Fitness — along with our community partners — will return to the school for a Sweet Treat Day or Pizza Party to celebrate their consistency and effort!

FAQ
What is the "Read & Move It" Challenge?
It’s a fun, low-lift program where kids complete 15 minutes of movement + 15 minutes of reading each day. They track progress using a sticker chart or digital tracker, and earn a reward coupon (like ice cream or smoothies) for every completed row.
How much work is this for teachers?
Minimal. We provide ready-to-use printable trackers and digital templates. Teachers simply hand them out and check progress once a week.
Are Animal Kingdom Workbooks included?
They’re optional. Schools have the opportunity to purchase the Animal Kingdom Read & Move Workbooks at $10 per book if they’d like to further integrate movement and literacy lessons into classroom time.
Is the challenge completed at school or at home?
Both.
-
Weekdays: Progress is tracked during class time.
-
Weekends: Students complete their movement + reading at home. This encourages family engagement while still keeping the classroom on track.
What if a student misses a day?
No problem!
Students can make up missed days over the weekend. Parents are encouraged to help ensure students stay on track so the whole class can complete the 30-day challenge together.
What about students who can’t access rewards or don’t eat sweets?
We work with local sponsors to make rewards accessible statewide. In addition to smoothie treats, we offer non-food reward options like bookmarks, bracelets, pencils, or hydration packs.
Is the program inclusive of students with disabilities?
Yes. The challenge was built in partnership with Special Olympics. Movement can be adapted to include stretches, yoga, chair-based exercises, or breathing routines. Reading can include audiobooks or paired reading.
Are you collecting student data?
No. All tracking stays in the classroom. No personal data is collected or shared.
How does this fit with existing programs like AR or Book It?
Read & Move It is designed to compliment—not compete with—existing reading initiatives. It adds a wellness component that strengthens focus, motivation, and long-term healthy habits.
How is this funded?
Every Animal Kingdom workbook purchase fuels the program.
$1 from each book sold is donated directly to Special Olympics to support inclusion and outreach statewide.
Is this a one-time program?
This is a pilot launching in 2025, with a goal of reaching 20,000 students. Early participating schools will help shape the long-term model as it grows statewide and nationally.
How can my school get started?
It’s simple:
-
Confirm your interest.
-
Receive trackers, books (optional), and reward coupons.
-
Launch the challenge in your classrooms — we’ll support you every step of the way.
